An Essay About God's Love

God is love.

Love is a defining characteristic of God's personality.
And you have known and believed the love that God has for you. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. 1 John 4.16
God loves His Son, Jesus Christ.   The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. John 3.35
God loves every person in the world, including you.

God proved His love for you by surrendering His Son to die in atonement for your sins.
God demonstrates His own love toward you, in that while you were still sinners, Christ died for you.
Rom 5.8
Jesus Christ willingly gave His life to atone for your sins. Why? Because He loves you!   (Jesus said...) Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15.13
Jesus loves you so much that He became poor in order that you could have the riches of heaven.   For you know the grace of your Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. 2 Cor 8.9
Jesus proved His love by enabling you to have victory over your slavery to sin.   Knowing this, that your old man (your sin nature) was crucified with Jesus, that the body of sin might be done away with, that you should no longer be slaves of sin. Rom 6.6
Jesus's love for you is unshakable, steadfast, and true.   And the Lord, He is the one who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed. Deu 31.8
Because of His love Jesus gives you an abundant life while you live...   (Jesus said...) I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10.10b
And when you die, Jesus gives you eternal life.

Why? Because He loves you!
(Jesus said...) And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. John 10.28
God the Father has a special love for those people who love His Son and receive Him as Savior for their sins.   (Jesus said...) The Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God. John 16.27
The Father's love is so great for those who receive Jesus that He adopts them as His very own children.

Moreover, He makes them joint-heirs with Jesus Christ, endowing them with all the riches of His glorious kingdom.
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on you, that you should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know you, because it did not know Him. 1 John 3.1

... and if children, then heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ Rom 8.17
God's loves His own children with rejoicing and gladness.   The Lord your God in your midst ... will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you in His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. Zeph 3.17

God's love for those who reject Jesus is no less in magnitude, but it has a different *basis*...

  • God's love for His own children is one of pleasure and delight.
  • On the other hand, God's love for unbelievers is a love based on compassion and pity.
"As I live," says the Lord God, "I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die ...?" Ezek 33.11
If you have received Jesus as your personal Savior, you are a child of God and have eternal life.   But as many as received Jesus, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name. John 1.12
If you are not God's child in Jesus Christ, you do not have eternal life.

If you want to become God's child right now, READ ON!
And this is the testimony: that God has given you eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 1 John 5.11-12
Know this: receiving Jesus is the ONLY way you can become God's child.

Why? Because ONLY Jesus died to atone for your sins.
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14.6
Jesus invites you to receive Him as your Savior, so that you may become God's very own child.   (Jesus says...) Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him ..." Rev 3.20a
To receive Jesus, simply confess and believe, as shown in the verses alongside.   If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes to righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made to salvation. Rom 10.9-10
In the panel on the right is a suggested prayer to receive Jesus.

Or just talk to God in your own words. There is no need to talk fancy -- God understands plain English (or any other language for that matter).

Dear God...

  • I confess Jesus as my Lord and Savior.
  • I believe in my heart that you raised Jesus from the dead.
  • I am your child.
  • You are my Father.
  • I have eternal life! Amen.
